Assistant Director for Sports Psychology
Gary Bennett is the sports psychologist for the Virginia Tech Athletics Department where he meets with individual student-athletes and varsity teams. His theoretical style is influenced by cognitive-behavioral, feminist, acceptance and mindfulness and brief therapy models. His areas of interest include substance abuse, trauma and sport psychology.
Bennett holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky and is a licensed clinical psychologist. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (division 47 – exercise and sport psychology) and the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. He is also a certified consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. He is a licensed clinical psychologist.
