Claire Cabellos, LCSW

Staff Clinical Social Worker - Residential Well-Being

Claire Cabellos is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who enjoys collaborating with students and staff through her supervisory role in the Residential Well-Being program, as well as in direct therapeutic services.

Claire identifies as a generalist practitioner, meaning she does not have one singular specialty, though has worked predominantly with those experiencing distress due to anxiety, life transitions, identity development, and interpersonal relationship issues. She utilizes a blend of Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), and Person-Centered modalities in her approach. She also believes that it is her responsibility to meet students where they are, as they are the experts of their lives, and places an emphasis on building a strong therapeutic alliance to foster desired, sustainable change.

Claire obtained her Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and additionally holds a Master of Theological Studies degree from Duke University. Prior to joining the Cook Counseling Center, Claire worked in community mental health and school-based settings providing therapeutic, case management, and programmatic services.

In her free time, Claire can be found spending time with friends and family, searching for the perfect dirty Chai latte, and attempting to befriend every dog in the broader Blacksburg region.
