Trinley Palmo is a Staff Counselor at Cook Counseling Center. She applies a trauma informed and cross-cultural therapeutic approaches rooted in cognitive and dialectical behavioral theories. Her broad professional interests include multicultural counseling, immigrant & refugee trauma, international student’s adjustment, identity issues, depression and anxiety disorders.
She believes in providing a compassionate space to help clients recognize their inherent strengths and expertise of their own lived experiences. She has previously worked for many years in direct social work practice and global health promotion among refugee populations in India and Nepal. Therefore, she aspires to inculcate her interdisciplinary global experiences to promote healing, resilience and empowerment among the diverse student populations of Virginia Tech.
Trinley holds a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis in Clinical Mental Health and research specialization. She also holds a Master of Public Health in Community Health from State University of New York, Stony Brook. She has an Advanced Global Mental Health Diploma from Harvard University. Being a trilingual, she speaks English, Tibetan and Hindi fluently.
