Wagner is a Black Labrador Retriever trained as a service dog by Service Dogs of Virginia. He completed his advanced training in 2018 which included personal assistance and PTSD skills. His training was based upon principles of operant conditioning, a positive training approach teaching dogs to think and enjoy their work. Wagner passed his Assistance Dog International Exam in December of 2018, and began life as a therapy dog at Virginia Tech in December 2018. He assists in individual, group, and couples therapy, as well as outreach activities. He loves working with students, and his favorite way to show support is to offer his paw. His favorite forms of self-care are hide and seek, tug the rope, snuggling, and chasing or chewing a good stick.
