Justin (Shihong) Lin, Ph.D.
Justin (Shihong) Lin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Cook Counseling Center. He earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, where his research focused on the psychotherapy process and ways to make therapy more effective and efficient.
Justin’s theoretical orientation is grounded in a person-centered approach and integrates interpersonal psychodynamic, existential, cognitive behavioral, and multicultural perspectives. He believes that when individuals learn to genuinely accept and embrace themselves without judgment or conditions, they can navigate the complexities of life and career with greater confidence and authenticity. Justin strives to help clients reconnect with their authentic selves and realize their true potential while working through the impact of past experiences and current challenges.
Justin has worked and trained in a variety of clinical settings, including an inpatient psychiatric unit at Johns Hopkins, an outpatient medical center in Washington, D.C., a family therapy clinic in Greenbelt, Maryland, a psychotherapy research laboratory at the University of Maryland, and several university counseling centers across the country. He also received specialized training in insomnia and other sleep-related concerns at Johns Hopkins. Justin is particularly interested in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma and in exploring issues related to neurodiversity.
Before beginning his career in psychology, Justin worked as an engineer in the oil and gas industry for several years. He is passionate about working with students from all backgrounds and is especially excited to support engineering and other STEM students as they develop greater awareness of their emotional lives. Drawing on his own experience as an engineer, Justin enjoys helping STEM students explore the connection between the “emotional brain” and analytical thinking and discover ways to embrace a more integrated approach to well-being through “Whole Brain Living.”
