Julie Kaplan, Ph.D.

Embedded Psychologist for the Greater Washington DC Area

Julie Kaplan works as an Embedded Counselor at all Greater Washington DC Area campuses of Virginia Tech and with online students in the DC Metro Area. She enjoys working with students there. She is a licensed clinical psychologist, with an M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. She has over 30 years of experience working with adults in individual and couples therapy. Areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, coping with medical illness, stress management, ethnocultural issues, and perfectionism. In the past, she has worked at college counseling centers, community mental health centers, hospitals, and private practice settings. She uses an integrated approach, which includes cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, mindfulness, somatic, strength-based, positive psychology, and psychology of movement. She enjoys facilitating therapy dog events and weekly Wellness Walks for students in the DC Metro Area.
