Kela Rosario, M.S.W.
Kela Rosario is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who enjoys working collaboratively with students to identify and achieve mental health goals they have set for themselves. She primarily works at the Vet School while also providing support to the triage team when located at Gilbert street location.
Kela identifies as a generalist practitioner, utilizes a blend of solution focused and person-centered approaches as well as Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) interventions as needed. Her work at Virginia Tech has predominantly focused on managing and reducing symptoms of distress due to anxiety, life transitions, identity development, and interpersonal relationship issues. She has training in understanding family of origin systems and impacts of addiction both individually and as a family member. Kela places an emphasis on building a strong therapeutic alliance to foster desired, sustainable change.
Kela obtained her Master of Social Work degree from the Hunter College School of Social Work and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in secondary education with an emphasis on women’s studies and Afro American studies. Prior to joining the Cook Counseling Center, Kela worked in community mental health in New York City providing therapeutic, case management, and programmatic services.
In her free time, Kela enjoys reading, hiking and playing in her garden.
