Samuel Swisher, Ph.D.
Sam Swisher is the Embedded Counselor to the College of Science. He earned his Ph.d. in Counseling from the University of Kansas in 2025 and previously completed his doctoral internship at Cook. His professional experience spans college counseling centers, community mental health, and outpatient hospital settings.
Sam strives to practice therapy that is meaningful to the individual and is focused on fostering people’s sense of autonomy, connectedness, and growth. His areas of interest include grief and loss, men’s experiences of depression, navigating life’s transitions, interpersonal skills, and friendship. When not working, Sam likes to bike around town, hike, and watch birds. He enjoys getting in the kitchen and cooking new dishes, and trying out unfamiliar ingredients. Sam was raised on the Jersey Shore and loves a seaside escape.
