Jacob Perkins

Jacob Perkins is completing his final year of graduate training in Virginia Tech’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, where he was named a National Board of Certified Counselors’ Minority Fellow in Addictions Counseling. Before entering the field, he spent over a decade as a playwright and actor in New York City. Clinically and academically, Jacob’s work centers on the intersection of LGBTQ+ identities with substance use disorders, religious and spiritual trauma, and existential concerns. He draws from psychodynamic, systemic, and emotionally focused modalities, and is especially attuned to clients navigating relational disconnection, identity development, and anxiety. Outside of counseling, Jacob can often be found reading, rewatching Six Feet Under, or hiking with his partner and their dog.
