Embedded Counselor in Residential Well-being

Sydney serves as an Embedded Counselor within the Residential Well-being program. She earned her Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wake Forest University. Sydney is a Licensed Resident in Counseling, working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.

With three years of experience in the field of higher education as a mental health clinician, Sydney began her journey during her graduate school internship. She is deeply passionate about working with the collegiate demographic and finds fulfillment in helping students foster autonomy, build resilience, cultivate self-insight, practice self-compassion, and develop coping strategies for distress. Sydney believes in the potential for growth and change in every individual, and that improving our relationship with ourselves is the key to enriching our relationships with others. She is also committed to the idea that, by reflecting on our past, engaging fully with the present, and thoughtfully planning for our futures, we can co-create our healthiest, happiest selves and lead fulfilling lives.

Sydney takes an eclectic approach to counseling, rooted in a Rogerian Person-Centered perspective that emphasizes unconditional positive regard and congruence. Depending on client needs, she integrates tools from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness/meditation practices. As a generalist, Sydney approaches therapeutic treatment holistically, recognizing that we are complex, multifaceted beings with many intersecting dimensions. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, exploring new places, experimenting with elaborate recipes, and spending time with loved ones.
