Sarah Jones, Psy.D.

Director

Dr. Sarah Jones is the Director of the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.  She has worked as a staff psychologist, counseling center director and graduate and undergraduate adjunct faculty member at two other higher education institutions prior to her arrival at VA Tech.  Dr. Jones is responsible for the maintenance of the center’s full accreditation by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS).

Dr. Jones utilizes a holistic, strengths-based, psychodynamic approach to help students explore their goals, improve coping strategies and enhance their quality of life. Her professional interests include challenges related to life transitions, Interpersonal psychotherapy, leadership development, stress management, first-generation students, and young-adult identity development.

Dr. Jones holds an MEd in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from James Madison University.  She is a member of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD).
