Gary Bennett, Ph.D.

Gary Bennett is a clinical and sport psychologist for the Virginia Tech Athletics Department. He coordinates the CAMP program, as well as oversees ADHD and substance misuse programming. Gary is a member of the VT Athletics Leadership Institute staff and serves on several committees within the Athletics Department. He provides individual counseling to student-athletes as well as working with teams to improve cohesion and performance. Gary's theoretical style is influenced by cognitive-behavioral, feminist, acceptance and mindfulness and brief therapy models. His areas of interest include substance abuse, trauma and sport psychology.
Bennett holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky and is a licensed clinical psychologist. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (division 47 – exercise and sport psychology) and the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. He is also a certified consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. He is a licensed clinical psychologist.
