Ian Hoban, M.A.

Resident in Counseling

Ian Hoban is a Resident in Counseling and received his Master’s from Virginia Tech’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. He arrived at the field of counseling as part of a career change, having previously earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and working in the independent film world. Ian’s areas of interest include postmodern and feminist theoretical approaches, writing and expressive arts modalities, identity formation and exploration, experiences related to grief and trauma, as well as neurodivergence.

Working primarily from a Relational-Cultural Theoretical orientation, Ian seeks to promote client autonomy through collaboratively building an egalitarian therapeutic relationship. Ian strives to promote client resilience through the exploration of relational models related to client’s family, friends, community, as well as with themselves.
