Jessica Goergen, M.A.
Jess is a Doctoral Psychology Intern at Cook Counseling Center. Her clinical interests include depression, trauma, women’s issues, religion/spirituality issues, and sport psychology, especially athlete transition/retirement. Jess has experience conducting individual therapy, group therapy, and psychological assessment in a variety of settings including college counseling centers, a community mental health center, and an inpatient psychiatric hospital. Her approach to therapy involves interpersonal process and psychodynamic theory, prioritizing client safety, autonomy, and authenticity.
Jess is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Counseling Psychology program at Auburn University. Prior to her graduate training, she was a lacrosse student-athlete during her undergraduate studies at Presbyterian College. She also served as a Shelter Advocate for a non-profit organization providing services and resources to survivors of intimate partner violence. Beyond her professional life, Jess enjoys being outside with her rescue dog, eating Thai food, and watching her favorite millennial comfort movies.
