Doctoral Psychology Intern

Sam Swisher is a Doctoral Psychology Intern at Cook Counseling Center. Sam enjoys getting to practice individual therapy and group therapy with students experiencing a variety of issues. Sam is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Kansas Counseling program. He has previous experience at college counseling centers, community mental health, and out-patient hospital settings. Sam strives to practice therapy that is meaningful to the individual and is focused on fostering people’s sense of autonomy, connectedness, and growth. His areas of interest include grief and loss, men’s experiences of depression, navigating life’s transitions, interpersonal skills, and friendship.
When not working, Sam likes to bike around town, hike, and watch birds. He enjoys getting in the kitchen and cooking new dishes, and trying out unfamiliar ingredients. Sam was raised on the Jersey Shore and loves a seaside escape.
